Grass Roots Weather is led by Herb Stevens, an experienced meteorologist and accomplished amateur golfer based in Rhode Island.
After graduating from Penn State’s Department of Meteorology in 1975, Herb caddied for five years on the PGA Tour, including all four majors and the 1979 Ryder Cup alongside Larry Nelson. He launched his career in Atlanta in the early 1980s as one of the original on-camera meteorologists at the Weather Channel.
Known to some as the Skiing Weatherman, Herb has spent the better part of his career airing weekly television weather reports for ski areas up and down the East Coast. In 2012, Herb re-tailored the program for a 100% online audience.
Herb’s forecasting method is decidedly old school. It involves hard work, pattern recognition and analog forecasting techniques, skills that no computer can replace. Herb relies on forty years of forecasting experience and never-ending research to let you know what to expect weeks, even months ahead of time.
